When looking for their first home to raise a family, they stumbled upon 1258 Pennsylvania Avenue - a suburban paradise with great bones that they could make their own. After years of watching their boys grow up, they are set to move on to South Jersey for a new career. This house has brought them some incredible memories like the dance parties to Nat King Cole, the living room comedy routines from a 7 and 8 year old and Home Alone movie nights. Their journey is just beginning, but it’s a bittersweet farewell to Oreland and Pennsylvania Avenue.

How would you describe your personal interior design style?
Simple and casual, family-oriented, organized, and light-hearted. A place where everyone can feel welcome and at home.

If you could only choose one song to play every time you walked into a room, what would it be?
Unforgettable by Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole. It’s just such a timeless song about being in love with someone and choosing to devote yourself to them.

How would you describe your neighborhood?
An intersection of quaint and accessible. Within walking distance you’ll find a variety of local small businesses including a mom and pop style hardware store, bagel shop, and bakery. Charming Keswick with its historic theatre and 1950s style soda shop is always a hit with the kids. These features blend seamlessly with walkable access to Septa and other easy routes to Philadelphia and beyond. The best of both worlds.

If you could use your house as the setting for a remake of a movie, which movie would it be?

Home Alone! Kids’ choice on this one. Our boys are 8 and 7 and we recently watched the old Home Alone movies. They loved them and would apparently love to rig our house to trap the “Wet Bandits”

What was your non-negotiable when it came to finding your dream home?
Still a work in progress here.

For him: A property big enough to play sports with the boys, and a driveway fit for a basketball court.

For her: hardwood floors throughout!

What's your favorite room? Why?
The family room, because that’s where we spend most of our time together. It’s also the room that has made arguably the biggest transformation as we re-modeled the hardwood floors that were hiding beneath the old carpets.

What is one thing you need in your home to make it yours?
Just each other. Everything else is a bonus.

What makes you (or your family) laugh?
Usually it’s some kind of conversation with either an 8 or a 7 year old.

If you could throw a theme party in your house, what would be the theme?
How about a tropical beach theme? Given the current Covid issues, sounds like we will have to bring the tropical paradise to our home for the time being.

A day spent running around the neighborhood: what's your first stop and last stop?

We’d start our day with breakfast and coffee across the street at the bagel shop, and we’d end at either the Keswick Tavern or the Weldon Soda Fountain, depending on whether or not we have a babysitter.

How has your home changed from move-in day?
A lot has changed for the better over the years. We have painted basically the entire house, exchanged just about every electrical outlet and wall plate, renovated an old hardwood floor that was hidden beneath carpeting, updated the carpeting in the spare bedroom, and changed a variety of light fixtures. Outside we have added a few flower beds and added a lot of mulching to keep things looking tidy.

What's your favorite memory of your home?
The thrill of moving into our own home for the first time. We really loved living here and the thought of moving on is somewhat bittersweet.

What was the catalyst to you purchasing a new home?
This home: We both worked in Philadelphia and needed easy access to the city. We also had two young children approaching school age and we wanted excellent public schools. Tricia grew up in this area and we were very comfortable settling down here.

Our next home: Our move now is motivated by a change in job requiring us to move to southern New Jersey. We will miss it here.

What's your favorite piece of Philly culture?
We are all major sports fans and now very excited Flyers season ticket holders! Too bad we are not allowed in the stadium :(

We also enjoy the wide variety of museums having memberships to the Please Touch Museum and the Franklin Institute. The Philadelphia zoo and especially the Camden Adventure Aquarium were also big hits
