How did you get into real estate and what do you love about it?
30 some years ago I was riding the elevator to my prior corporate job in International Shipping and I just knew, I could not do it for much longer. I am a deeply passionate person and this job and culture were sucking the soul out of me! I gave my notice but negotiated a year’s severance to be an on-call consultant for a year. My first week of freedom, I ran into my Realtor at the hardware store. She said, “Diane you are such a people connector! You send me a ton of referrals each year. You can do this.”. Mmmm, no thanks. Aren’t Realtors just a half step up from used car salespeople? But the seed had been planted and by the next morning, I had a plan on how I could run my business differently. What I love about being a Realtor is being honored to witness all the big changes in someone’s life. With respect, transparency and clarity we can help ease those transitions. That requires great logistical coordination and forward planning. All things I excel at. I love being a witness to my clients’ lives. It is such a privilege.
What made you want to live in your current area?
I moved to this area from Japan as a Junior in high school. I love that it has all four seasons, is on the Pacific coastline and feels a lot like my birthplace of Yokohama, Japan.
What makes living in your area so special?
Family is what makes the area special for me. Both my mother and daughter are both 15 minutes away. My family enjoys skiing, mountain biking, hiking and camping while I love being left alone to read and putter around the kitchen when I am not working.
A workday spent running around the neighborhood: what's your first stop and last stop?
My first stop is probably Coyle’s Bakeshop and a day away from the home office always includes a stop at the Book Larder, which is an independent book store specializing in cookbooks, which are my weakness.
Best restaurant/bar? Favorite spot for coffee?
I am currently in love with Frank’s Oyster Place for oysters and champagne but also a great burger or fried chicken! Coyle’s Bakeshop for coffee but really my husband makes excellent coffee.
A day in the life: how are you spending a day off in your neighborhood/area?
Pre-pandemic I loved spending my day off at the Frye Art Museum listening to art history lectures, or going to Capers in West Seattle for breakfast with the owner, Lisa. Or you could find me at the Book Larder planning my next client cooking class event.
What's your favorite hidden gem?
My favorite hidden gem is Casablanca Floral in the South End. Maura Whalen hosts the most epic floral classes in her studio.
What is your favorite piece of your area's culture?
I love the Cascadia Art Museum in Edmonds. They took a mid-century modern Safeway and turned it into a cultural gem.

I speak fluent Japanese. I love teaching. I am also a Life Coach.
