John & Lizzy

A home is where love resides, memories are created, and laughter never ends. From make-your-own pizza parties, to a proposal, and first steps - John, Lizzy, baby Hugh and Hudson the dog made this house their home. Although they are moving for Lizzy to start her PhD program at the University of Oregon, they want the next owners to see just how amazing this home really is! Here’s the story of 1245 Lombard Street.

How would you describe your personal interior design style?

Farmhouse Chic with a dash of antiques and a flair for handcrafted wooden pieces

If you could only choose one song to play every time you walked into a room, what would it be?

‘Love You For A Long Time’ by Maggie Rogers

How would you describe your neighborhood?

Small community feel with big city accessibility. Really fun! It has everything we need within walking distance and lovely neighbors to top it all off. Also musical! Our neighbors around the corner on Iseminger Street charmed our neighborhood and lucky passersby this past summer and fall with outdoor pop-up orchestra concerts put on by wonderful classical musicians - thank you musicians!

If you could use your house as the setting for a remake of a movie, which movie would it be?

Definitely a RomCom with a cozy fire place scene

What's your favorite room? Why?

It’s a toss up between the kitchen and the open first floor. We love how big the kitchen feels and functions when you’re in it. It’s fantastic to look out of the kitchen into the bright, open living room with French doors, and see our son playing while we cook. The bookshelf staircase to the 3rd floor loft is really neat too!

What makes you (or your family) laugh?

Playing Peekaboo with Hugo, and watching John Mulaney comedy specials on Netflix

What is one thing you need in your home to make it yours?
Color and great décor

What makes you (or your family) laugh?
Fun tv shows and playing with our pets

A day spent running around the neighborhood: what's your first stop and last stop?

First we’re off to grab coffee at Suprema Roastery on Pine street and croissants from J’aime (unless we’re venturing further afield to Passyunk), then it’s off to the playground and dog park. In the evening, we’re back grilling and cooking with goods from the Head House farmer's market or grocery stores a few blocks away. Pre-covid you may have found us at the Kimmel Center scoring rush tickets to an evening concert or out on 13th street popping between the plentiful and delicious restaurants. Now, we enjoy the spontaneous classical music concerts around the corner on Iseminger St, and relaxing in our back patio or by the fire place (depending on the season!)

How has your home changed from move-in day?

Cozier, busier (added a dog and a baby!) and more toddlerfriendly

What's your favorite memory of your home?

John proposed to Lizzy in the living room in front of a roaring fire while our puppy watched on. Before getting on one knee, he blindfolded her and guided her down the spiral staircase. Worth repeating—Blindfolded! Our son discovered his love for climbing on the same stairs and took his first steps here. Pre-Covid we often hosted make-our-own pizza parties and friends for all meals. We love our house full of boisterous conversations, cooking aromas, and friends gathered around a table.

What was the catalyst to you purchasing a new home?

Elizabeth is starting a PhD program at the University of Oregon so we’re moving west!

What's your favorite piece of Philly culture?

We love the old row homes and the pieces of history in each one, like the different fire marks dating back to Benjamin Franklin’s first fire department. We especially love exploring the small narrow streets and secret gardens throughout the city.
